Golden Earring - Weekend Love (music video + live, Voorburg, June 15, 1979)
Their 1979 album No Promises, No Debts, which George produced, is the only Golden Earring album crediting all four band members as songwriters on every song. As I recall from what I read, the song's lyrics were about lead singer Barry's complaints that his latest girlfriend, a very successful photographer, wasn't finding enough time for him. Not sure why Barry didn't take the lead vocal instead of happily-married George. But George had started the song. From Casper Roos's fan site at https://casperroos.nl/story70.html#1979 :
Weekend Love was written in a few minutes while George was kind of drunk and recorded it right away on an eight-track recorder. With the demo tape they went into the studio but couldn't get it they way they wanted it to be. Finally the demotape was used for the album. The song seemed to be a perfect single at the time of the recordings so it was released as the first single from the album.
Released in June, it was a top 10 hit in Europe. Music video below, plus a live performance taped in June for a TV show.
Notice the pyrotechnics in the music video. There was a bad accident in August:
During the concert at Zevenhuizen (Groningen) on August 18, 1979 a serious accident happened. George got injured in his neck (right side) due to the preliminary explosion of a magnesium bomb which was attached to his guitar neck. George was taken to the Groningen Academic hospital by ambulance and treated while the concert was cancelled. The injury was severe and almost cut George his neck artery which would have been fatal. A scar at the right side of George's neck remained and reminds of this incident.
