A postal mail sorter came upon a letter addressed to "The greatest drummer in the world". He assumed it was Louie Bellson so he sent it out.

When Louie got it, he said there must be some mistake, I'm not the greatest, Gene Krupa is. So the letter was forwarded to Gene, but when he got it, he said no, Buddy Rich is the greatest.

So the letter now gets to Buddy Rich. He says yes, I am the world's greatest drummer. He opens the envelope and begins to read . . .

Buddy Rich had a temper. His tirades were recorded by musicians on his tour.

Musicians hated being on tour with Buddy Rich.

A friend of mine was one of those musicians. One day, the secretary for Buddy Rich made phonecalls to the musicians. It wasn't the logistics of the tour, the time to show up at the airport, etc. She told my friend's compatriot that Buddy had died the night before and the tour was canceled. Five minutes later, the secretary got a call from a musician asking about the tour. She stated that Buddy died the night before and the tour was canceled. Five minutes after that, the secretary got a call asking about the tour. She was in the middle of Buddy died/the tour was canceled when she realized she recognized the voice. It was musician she had called 10 minutes before. She confronted him and he admitted that she told him at least three times that Buddy died/the tour was canceled.

She asked him why he kept calling her to ask the same question. He replied that he just loved hearing her say Buddy died/the tour was canceled.
