World War II ended in Europe with the defeat of Germany 75 years ago, May 8, 1945.
- Glenn Miller, bandleader, c. 1942.
- National WW2 Museum, 'Major Glenn Miller, U.S. Army Air Forces' 2019
The Glenn Miller Orchestra was at the top of the charts when Miller gave it all up to support the war effort. This two part series will highlight Millers career and untimely disappearance. December 10, 2019
In 1942, Big Band music was at its height of popularity. As American servicemen began to leave for distant shores, the songs of Big Band orchestras became the soundtrack to a long and trying war. In 1942, few acts were as popular at home and abroad as The Glenn Miller Orchestra. Seventy-five years later, the Orchestras songs are still the soundtrack to the war for many. Its practically impossible to visit a museum covering the war without hearing one of the bands popular songs such as In the Mood or Moonlight Serenade. During the war, Glenn Millers music was more than just entertainment for Americans far from home, even after his tragic disappearance in 1944...

but 75 years later, repugs threaten to crash us down.

or political conflict, when the old men are gone or nobody listens. This stuff is right on time, but we can't be poisoned by it or hopeless. There has to be light.

Thank you so much.
Please enjoy the weekend, though the weather is going to be pretty crappy in DC and the surroundings.

A song of hope looking forward to the end of World War 2 and the Blackout, and soldiers returning home.
It's hard for those of us born later to fully understand the way the War affected everything.
My mom was evacuated to strangers in the countryside to be away from our city being bombed.
People went without foods we take for granted now...
and worst of all, many many lives of loved ones were lost or damaged.

Therell be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow
Just you wait and see
I'll never forget the people I met
Braving those angry skies
I remember well as the shadows fell
The light of hope in their eyes
And though I'm far away
I still can hear them say
Bombs up...
But when the dawn comes up
Therell be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow
Just you wait and see
Therell be love and laughter
And peace ever after
Tomorrow
When the world is free
The shepherd will tend his sheep
The valley will bloom again
And Jimmy will go to sleep
In his own little room again
Therell be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow
Just you wait and see
Therell be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow
Just you wait and see..
