There's an interview with the maestro's father in which he was asked if he had any idea his son would grow up to be such a musical giant. The elder Mr. Bernstein replied, "Not really. I had no idea he'd grow up to be Leonard Bernstein!"

The program was Beethoven’s 6th and Stravinsky’s “Oedipus Rex.”

I saw him from WAY up high (where Dad got us seats) when I was a kid, probably at The City Center in NYC, a family/children's program; he did them often.
