I agree with you on the fragmentation and proliferation of genres and sub-genres - it is baffling. NRaleighLiberal Aug 2017 #5

Most of the music I buy is on Independent Labels - but I mainly listen to Roots, Americana and Blues.

So American Blues Scene and Aficionado would be good starts - As well as the Rounder Records, Alligator Records and Fat Possum Records websites

I am old, but I still get some good tips at the Rolling Stone website.

My wife gets tips on Japanese music on a Mixi.co.ja subgroup, but I can't read it...

Good Luck cousin. Peace

make a list of them, then use Pandora or Spotify for either playlists or specific things.

I have an Amazon Echo and have Prime Music - so I just pretty much listen from morning coffee until bed time.

My tastes are super eclectic - lots of ambient, post rock, etc

I like ambient, post rock, shoe gazer, electronic, and a bunch of other genres. I'm also into jazz, classical and world music, but I have a ton of that stuff already.

It was so easy in the early 90s with alternative rock - pretty clean demarcations - but no more!

What I am totally lost on is anything pop culture, or widely played - makes it hard to do crossword puzzles when such clues are included.

I am eagerly awaiting the new National, made a bit of peace with the new Arcade Fire (I miss band that did Funeral and The Suburbs), but am gouging nightly on Sigur Ros, Hammock and Stars of the Lid.

We also just rewatched Ken Burns' Jazz - so diving in to jazz that I never did listen to - Art Blakey, Jackie McLean, etc.

So much great music out there - kid in a candy shop territory!

A lot of independent musicians can't afford to advertise or have a P.R agency, so we put up links in various message boards. So when you see a link posted here and you never heard of the artist, by all means: click om it and listen! Support independent artists! We got enough Taylor Swifts in our lives.
