So let's get it going with my favorite opening to a rock album ever. "Intro/Sweet Jane" from Rock and Roll Animal
Lou was such a poet that he'd lead you into place you'd never been and before you even notice you reap just what you sow
Nothing is what it seems at first
But at heart, he was a New York rocker

(13,199 posts)Because it's title is so ridiculous, your choice is a better song all the way through.
I was stationed in Japan when this record came out and it was also when record companies they were rolling out CDs.
I bought a player and maybe 8 CDs on layaway all at once.
Eric Clapton's "Money and Cigarettes" and Neil Young's "Everybody's Rocking" were also in that purchase, and they both suck B
"New Sensations" didn't suck though, at least if you were used to Lou

(16,616 posts)I was accompanying a friend and we were scouting locations for a documentary about homelessness he was making. He was driving and he took us to some dangerous places in downtown Los Angeles at the foolish hours between around 11PM and 1AM. It was a little scary. We almost got into a scrape with some gang types. I guess he was feeling brave that night. On the drive over he put this tape into his player and said, "You have to hear this song." I don't remember if he even played any more of the album. Just this song, maybe more than once. Looking back, I can see how well it fit.
In any event, the next day I had to learn more about this musician and go find this album.

(13,199 posts)It's good to hear songs I hadn't thought of in years.
Although a bunch don't live up to my memory of them.

(488 posts)Did he ride a motorcycle? The song describes his trip on a GPZ
Edited to add that he had a few bikes it seems.

But I only have a passing knowledge of their discographies, and I don't like posting hit songs

(65,212 posts)...did you ever hear Metal Machine Music?
It's the gold standard for giving the record company both middle fingers! (Released on their CLASSICAL brand)
It's not a pleasant listen, but it made a point.
There are no true "cuts" otherwise I'd post one.
Just 4 album sides, each exactly 16 minutes 1 second, of noise!
Oh, what the hell!
I don't recommend more than a few minutes.

(13,199 posts)Until now.
When folks say that certain music is "Noise" now I can say, nah bro, this is noise
ProfessorGAC
(65,212 posts)At the end of each side, sound just goes to zero!
Next cut picks up there.
It's 64 minutes of continuous noise!

(4,138 posts)That album just perfectly captured the crazy angry energy of NYC at the end of the 80s
Also, this is in Laurie Anderson's discography, but still belongs here.

That was cool.

(4,138 posts)She's this perfect blend of avant-garde intellectual artiste, and folksy Midwestern storyteller. And her backing music is cool too, like if the Talking Heads arranged music by Philip Glass.
If you haven't seen her concert film "Home of the Brave," it's worth watching. The whole thing was on Youtube, last I checked, but it's otherwise hard to find.

(13,199 posts)Still give me chills and I bought this record in 1977 and have had a copy ever since
I believe it's the best live record ever made...
Which is a problem since I also believe ABB, Live at the Fillmore East is the best live album ever made
undeniably a classic album
