Mark Knopfler thread. The hard part with him is finding songs you've not heard a million times

Some of his songs remind me of JJ Cale, not that he sounds like JJ, but the relaxed "front porch" pace and off hand almost spoken vocals. I love Dire Straits' up-tempo rock songs too, but this style is so Mark Knopfler

The album Tracker had a minor hit with "Beryl" which stylistically was a call back to "Lady Writer". Kind of an inside joke since Beryl was about novelist Beryl Bainbridge - an actual lady writer. That tickles me.

Tracker is a great record, I highly recommend it.

2. Great song. On every street was a good record, but for some reason FM radio hammered us

With Heavy Fuel and the Bug, which are ......Well, not great.

Fade to Black is freaking fantastic and so is the title track (as you know obvs)

So yeah, this album qualifies

3. yeah, I hate Heavy Fuel, and that one pounded the airwaves...

go figure! Also LOVE Fade to Black.

I actually do like The Bug, because it inspired some hilarious crazy mad dancing with my very young kids at the time, so it has a soft spot with me.
