I didn't know all this time that "Geddy" was a stage name (I know a Finnish guy whose first name is Geddy). Anyhoo, his mom sounds like she was a sweetheart.

(4,268 posts)became his stage name. Geddy's mom had a hard time pronouncing his real name (Gary). So when she said his name it sounded like "Geddy". So Gary Lee Weinrib became Geddy Lee and the rest is history.

(25,924 posts)When Alex and Geddy quit high school, their parents were worried. For Geddy, he just had his mom worrying. For Alex, both of his parents were unhappy.
Interestingly, when Neil was struggling with whether to join Rush, his parents told him he should do it. They were much more encouraging of his musical career. But that's probably because they were Canadian natives, while the ivojinovićes and the Weinribs were refugees from some of the more war-torn parts of Europe.
