Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumyou might convince me there's AS GOOD a heavy metal song as this one ... but not a better one!
This song kicks ass, top-to-bottom, every player in the band at the top of their game, just freaking rocking it.
I forget about how great it is til I put it on every 5 or so years, since 1982 when I bought the album (and saw them on this tour). But it always gets me pumped.

(33,643 posts)This record (their 3rd) came out a few months before Kill 'em All iirc.
I'd definitely agree there's a few Metallica songs that are as good as this one.
Bu then I'd also argue that we called Metallica 'thrash metal' back then, rather than 'heavy metal'

(7,170 posts)(Me being one of those people who were around and listened to it at the time called it heavy metal) but what we call it now.

(33,643 posts)ever was Enter Sandman, I wouldn't call ya wrong ... let alone if you said something from the first 4 albums

(16,817 posts)Is at least as good if not a better metal song IMHO
Hugh_Lebowski
(33,643 posts)I chose the words 'Heavy Metal' specifically
Though I'd also argue Metallica borrowed heavily from Maiden's style at the time.

(33,643 posts)Diary also. Hell man, that was High School for me! I was all about Priest, Maiden, Ozzy, Dio, Scorpions ... and of course Zep & Floyd.
And I get the resemblance in the galloping cadence of both songs.
But IMHO, Rhoads is the only one in that band worthy of holding the jock of anyone in Iron Maiden in terms of musicianship. IOW, Randy was good enough to be in Maiden but the other ones were very average, and this song would be too if not for Randy and the badass riffage he wrote and played on it
Docreed2003
(16,817 posts)But both would be considered "trash metal"

Apparently "Metal" is at home everywhere!

(168 posts)I guess one should expect that the descendants of Genghis Khan would know how to rock a baseline.

(10 posts)Anyone a Megadeth fan?
IMO they tend to get overlooked when discussing the great ones.

(14,112 posts)And yes, I so like them.
Wasn't Dave Mustaine the original guitarist for Metallica?
AwakeAtLast
(14,112 posts)He drank himself out of the group. Considering the group was Metallica, that took some major talent, ha ha. How he kept his liver is beyond me!
