(112,070 posts)such as history, math, science, sociology, etc. In the mid-1990s the symposium was on Shostakovich. It included lectures about how Shostakovich was stymied by Stalin, along with musical and theatrical performances. In association with the symposium they showed the Russian version of Hamlet which had the score provided by Shostakovich. I tried, but could only handle the first act of Hamlet. The sets were sparse, but the score was great. I just couldn't handle reading English subtitles for a black-and-white movie made in the 1950s. On a positive note, I went with three of my friends and we had a good meal at the German restaurant in Walburg (pop. 300) afterwards and went rolling afterwards.
