My 16 year old kiddo is playing this at his upcoming Christmas piano recital! Highly unusual, I know. However, the child typically plays something very unconventional at his recitals and it has become an audience draw at these performances…”what will Owen play for the Christmas recital this year?” After all, how much Frosty the Snowman can an audience endure?

This to me is the perfect piano piece to learn for this time of the year! (although Owen is playing it for Christmas, right?)

Owen sounds like a great kid! I love that he’s making a name for himself and is becoming a draw at the music recitals! Does he plan to study music or have a musical career after high school?

An aside … this song was a staple at Halloween parties when I was a student at Kent State back in the olden days … due to the line “he’s the hairy handed gent who ran amok in Kent”. Much cheering at that line and much howling along with the chorus….

That’s awesome.

I agree that this is a great piece to learn this time of year…kiddos in Owen’s piano studio begin honing their Christmas recital pieces now through December anyway…it’s probably why O has always chosen something off beat because who wants to bang out Silent Night in October? Nobody! Last year O played a bluesy rendition of Stand By Me for the recital and brought the house down. Owen does plan study music in college…he plays piano, guitar and alto sax…thanks for asking!
