Ive been told by two different doctors, neither asking us for a buck or a click on a YouTube page, that going to a concert with over 20,000 people, without a vaccine mandate is a smart thing.
Yeah, I bought these tickets over 6 months ago. Damn it. I just wanted to feel normal for a few hours.
Would you go?

(9,291 posts)to see Genesis for their last time. Just canceled the hotel, no refunds on tickets.
Wrong state, my fault. Ohio has no mandate, but wear a mask to get in. Yeah, no.

(11,029 posts)Ive gathered a half dozen bootlegs from this tour and have been disappointed with every one. Phil doesnt sound good - hes augmented by a trio of background singers. He also sounds like hes going through the motions during the audience participation moments. And hes forgetting lyrics.
It hurts me to hear him like this, but I respect him going out on his terms.
I saw his 2019 solo tour and while he didnt sound great, it wasnt nearly as bad as these shows.
The band still sounds like a beast, however, and they are doing songs that havent been played in 40 years, so theres that.
I ended up deciding to see Steve Hackett again. Hes in a smaller venue with a mask/vaxx requirement and is playing the Seconds Out album in its entirety.

(9,291 posts)and thanks. Hear his son banging the drums. I mean , Phil doesnt need the money, and he just wants his son to feel a rock concert performance. Ive seen Genesis four times, and I know they can put on a show.
Were not going. However, Im confused why they will allow Phil to be in a venue without vaccine mandates. I had 3 shots, but we just dont know how they Omicron responds on my Pfizer shot.
Hey, I too have some bootlegs. Will watch, loudly, at the house on Wednesday night. Its only some money, thats can be replaced.

(11,029 posts)They cancelled a few shows in England at the end of the 1st leg. Theyre all vaxxed at least.
Honestly, if they were playing Phoenix, LA or San Diego Id make the trip, like you said, to say goodbye. But in Phx there is a venue mask/vaxx mandate for live shows, and Cali is taking mandates seriously.
But no west coast dates.
Ibe seen them 4 times as well, including the final show in 2007 that was their last show until recently. And I saw them in 82 on the last tour they did mostly old material, so I cant complain too much. And that solo show in 19 was an emotional gut punch, I was warned to be prepared for how he looked, and it was still shocking.
Feeling normal is great.
Feeling dead. Not so much.
Just my 2 cents.

(11,029 posts)I bought tix for King Crimson, Flaming Lips, Dream Theater, Gary Numan, and Rick Wakeman.
I made it to Crimson before Delta spiked and it still made me uncomfortable with most of the crowd masked.
I skipped the Lips and the rest were postponed till 22. So I hope COVID is down by late February/March when all those shows were rescheduled.

(6,544 posts)Umphreys McGee, Roger Waters and Leodid & Friennds. We saw Diana Ross the Saturday before all Hell broke loose. Havent purchased anything this year at all, other than live streams, I have too many health issues to risk it at this point. TBH, I know a lot of folks who have successfully gone to shows, and most venues are being pretty strict, but just not worth the risk for me, personally.

(32,006 posts)I passed up on Justin Hayward last Oct. in a venue that did not require masks or vax. It killed me not to go (I had a ticket) but just couldnt risk picking up something and bringing it home to my family. Lucky for me, Id seen him before. Ohio is spiking Covid now, we have the same number of cases as we did last January. It sucks. I love concerts, too.

(9,291 posts)I so understand you today. Got one day to see if our vaccines hold up against Omicron. Not holding my breath.
