On this day, December 20, 1922, Geoff Mack, who wrote "I've Been Everywhere," was born.

Born on this day in Surrey Hills, Victoria, Australian country singer, songwriter Geoff Mack. He wrote the song "I've Been Everywhere" which became popular in North America when adapted for Hank Snow. More than 130 cover versions of the song have since been recorded.

It's also the day in 1999 on which Hank Snow died.

Hank Snow died at his Rainbow Ranch in Madison, Tennessee. The Canadian singer scored more than 70 singles on the Billboard country charts from 1950 until 1980, including "I'm Moving On", "I Don't Hurt Anymore", and "Hello Love". Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris, have all covered his songs.

Albert Geoffrey McElhinney OAM (20 December 1922 – 21 July 2017), better known by his stage name Geoff Mack, was an Australian country singer, songwriter and aircraft mechanic. As a songwriter, he wrote the song "I've Been Everywhere" which was an Australian hit for Lucky Starr in April 1962 and became popular in North America when adapted for Hank Snow in November. More than 130 cover versions have been recorded.

In 2008, Mack was inducted into the Australian Roll of Renown.
