It has a very special place in my life, as I twice met up with an old girlfriend (whom I would've married if the stars had aligned differently) on New Year's day. I'm still in touch with her, but she's 900 miles away. She's been married twice, divorced twice, and has two daughters (now grown). So every New Year's, I "relive in our eloquence, another auld lang syne." Her eyes are still as blue.

I hope she's found happiness in her life. Dan wrote this song about a real life experience he had. By chance he was reunited with an old flame New Years Eve 1975. He took pains to protect her identity. He was born in Peoria, IL not too far from where I grew up. I went to Peoria regularly which was a 15 to 20 minute drive as there wasn't much to do in the small town I lived in in the 80's. I think this has been the third year in a row I've posted this song. I've always liked it. It wasn't that it reminded me of a former love but it was one of my late mom's favorites. It's kind of sad but uplifting at the same time.
