(2,840 posts)I loved them live, but I usually preferred studio cuts for listening other than fresh tapes on tour.

(10,206 posts)the company that I work for had a drawing for FTW tix, and you had to post a guess for the last song of the tour to enter. My correct guess did not result in winning tix, but Phil, Bobby, and Co. concurred with the sentiment:

(10,206 posts)has the moment, but the studio version is the one I hear in my head. Nevertheless, I boo-hooed big time watching this on the livestream.

(24,584 posts)Used to hitch hike from Saco, Me to Worcester, MA and back in the 70's. The one guy that turned me on to the Dead was a uniformed AF person. Turned me on to Skull and Roses. Smoked a pipe. Delightful trip to Worcester.

(13,192 posts)I came in right after urinalysis started and right before the zero tolerance weed regulations went into effect.
I retired before the 2 ongoing operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and the retention problems they caused, forced the DOD to soften that policy.
I imagine once Texas legalizes weed the DOD will too.
It's the last of the dozen biggest states to still criminalize weed, and once it changes that. 3/4 of Americans will live in a legal weed state.
Enlisting folks from those states may be too difficult

Not second hand, purchased directly.
When I heard about the (then future) opportunity to get this, I waited and checked daily. As soon as it was available, I jumped.

(24,584 posts)Maybe 10 trips involved the Dead for me. Still, they were always interesting - doped or not.

(49,034 posts)late 1972 and early 1973. Think I must've played it hundreds of times, more than any other song there except for "Layla" - and possibly more than that Clapton favorite.

(2,182 posts)Ok, it's not for the faint of heart. At nearly 30 minutes, it's a real GD jam piece. This is the entire suite done live:
Cryptical Envelopment ->
Quadlibet For Tender Feet (AKA Drums) ->
The Other One ->
Cryptical Envelopment
The strike-up coming out of the drums is transcendent and powerful. The soundboard recording is mind-blowing.

(2,182 posts)Including an acoustic 1st set w/ a rare Cold Jordan cover. The 3rd set includes one their last renditions of Viola Lee Blues. It's been referred to as the perfect Dead show and was released commercially as "Dick's Picks Volume 8":
