The vintage rock 'n' roll Cruisin' album series

Some of my favorite albums were released as part of the Cruisin' series in the mid-80s on Increase Records. They were re-creations of sets by some of the U.S.' best disc jockeys. The records included theme songs, dee jay patter, vintage commercials and, of course, vintage rock 'n' roll. They were later reissued in edited form, leaving out one song but also later expanded beyond the original seven releases. Here's one of my favorite --- 1965 with Robert W. Morgan on the Boss KHJ in Los Angeles.

I think I have most of the 1960's ones. Sometimes I put the jingles and commercials in my own mixes.

Cruisin’ was the brainchild of former KHJ program director Ron Jacobs. Jacobs disclaimed the later editions because he felt they were butchered, due to failure to get the necessary music clearances.

You said elsewhere you listened to WMCA in New York. The 1963 edition was B Mitchell Reed at WMCA. When they did the recreation, he had been doing progressive radio for years, and couldn’t recreate the talking speed, until Jacobs amped him up on caffeine.

I did listen to him on WMCA and I think I also heard him in L.A. His "show" in the series is also one of my faves, along with Arnie "Woo Woo" Ginsburg.

he moved to WMCA for a few years, and then returned to LA in 1965.
