They (especially John) had vowed not to go to the US until they had a number one song. I Want To Hold Your Hand hit number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 the week before this appearance.

Our family watched that show every Saturday night. I remember my Father's comments about their hair. He wouldn't be happy with me today.
