(24,455 posts)Sweet music.....sounds like the 70's when Linda Ronstadt was singing with the Eagles or Emmy Lou Harris when she was playing with Gram Parsons....sorta in that sweet spot.
But you ask a good question. Who defines country? The folks in Nashville that are vested in a particular musical sound/idea? Or this young lady who has the same musical chops as the aforementioned....and they sang country to me.
Don't mean to single out Country....I think there are curators for every genre that want to corral the folks that they promote to define the sound in their genre. But there are always people that don't fit....I think I've always been attracted to those that can't easily be pigeon holed.

(13,186 posts)I was searching for Marcus King music - He does backing vocals and guitar on this track.
I'm smitten.
"Life is hard on the road" songs are almost always written from a man's viewpoint so a woman's voice is an ear catching change.
Also, you're right - It isn't just C&W. Pop, Rock, and R&B radio is also ass.

(24,455 posts)Just damn glad I lived through the greatest musical coming of age - 1968-1975. That was my 15-22 age.
Whatta time. Not fabricated in a studio....played live, warts and all. And so many different sounds. Remember Ravi Shankar? Done with drugs and openness. Every week a new sound happened, totally from left field. Folks changed bands, then bands changed music. It was an awesome time to come alive, sonically speaking.
