Oh yes he DID cover this classic from Queen. It was rockabilly, after all, meant as an Elvis tribute. Yoakam had a hit with this cover, too.
And I think Freddie would have enjoyed it...
Here's the video for the original from Queen:

The cover made me delete a thread I had made with a Sex Pistols cover..covers are dicey..people love them or dislike them.. . I never heard the original and love the sex pistols but I could see the pov of the DUer who found it cringey ;-/.

I do share your love of the original song from Queen, and I agree it's tragic that Freddie died so young.
As for deleting a thread you posted with a cover because someone else here didn't like it -- please don't do that. Your opinions are as valid as anyone else's. If they don't like a cover, they don't have to listen to it, and they sure as hell don't have to comment on it as if offering an absolute judgment on whether the cover is any good. Since it is their subjective opinion, they can't say how other people would react, or even how the original artist would react.
And if you run across video of a cover, unless it's from a complete unknown, the odds are enough people liked the cover that the artist had confidence in it.
I posted here that I thought Freddie would have liked this Dwight Yoakam cover of his song. I can't be sure of that, but it is my guess. I've also posted elsewhere that I thought Buddy Holly would've liked the Stones' cover of "Not Fade Away" (which was my favorite Stones song till they recorded "Sympathy for the Devil." )
When I listened to Motorhead's cover of "Heroes" after running across that recently, I was NOT expecting to like it nearly as well as I did. Largely because I'd heard a lot of covers of that song that I DIDN'T like at all.
There are some covers I really, really dislike. I've always felt there should have been a law against Kid Rock's cover of Bad Company's "Feel Like Makin' Love" (I think I said so once in a GD thread about him). But Kid Rock somehow had a hit with that cover, and that made some money for Paul Rodgers and Mick Ralphs, so...
Here in MA I won't weigh in on anyone liking a cover I don't like since the purpose of this group is Music Appreciation. Or I'll do so very politely, as you did.
Anyway, please don't let people opining here get you to back down on music you like or find interesting.

(15,590 posts)It is just that some people seem to get very upset over music.. I am largely pretty laid back about most of my views..music and other..
But I figured if it was something I did not have particularly strong feelings about and was irking someone else, I would delete it.
Maybe I will give the Dwight Yoakam cover another look..I have seen your threads and I generally share your tastes.
I am not really familiar with Dwight Yoakam so maybe that was it.
But yeah people do get very snippy about covers..I had no idea that Desolation Row was a Bob Dylan song, but I liked My Chemical Romance's cover after I watched Watchmen. However, some people really hate it..shrug..
Thanks for your post..I was not sure about the Yoakam cover and I wondered if my reaction is amplified a 100 times in people who take that sort of thing harder.. ..
I am not easily piqued and somewhat asocial, so I can never tell what upsets other people..I delete a lot of posts for that reason..heh..
Thanks for your post !
