Start spreading the news
I am leaving today
I want to be a part of it
New York, New York
These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it
New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city
That doesn't sleep
And find I'm king of the hill
Top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there
I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you
New York, New York
New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city
That never sleeps
And find I'm a number one
Top of the list
King of the hill
A number one
These little town blues
All melting away
I am gonna make a brand new start of it
In old New York
And If I can make it there
I'm gonna make it anywhere
It's up to you
New York, New York, New York

(4,930 posts)much like Whitney Houston did with Dolly Partons I Will Always Love You. I much prefer Liza Minnellis version from the movie of the same name.

(48,968 posts)cover of the song for her, rather than Dolly Parton's original recording. I like all three but think Houston's is best, just as I like Liza Minelli singing "New York, New York" but prefer Sinatra.
Everyone has different taste. Which is good, since it keeps life from getting boring.

(4,930 posts)Sinatra had a style and was a good singer but he didn't have a large range and to be honest, in my opinion he should have retired much sooner than he did.

(48,968 posts)not just in the US but in Canada and Ireland and the UK, I think a lot of people prefer his cover. But again, we all have different taste. My parents were huge Sinatra fans, and I love his voice, too.

(4,930 posts)I prefer lots of song and versions that most people don't know or haven't even heard of the artist. I my opinion (and you know what they say about opinions) he interpretation was lacking...and yes, I still believe he kept on singing way too long. He originally retired in 1971 and came back in 1973 and kept on until he died in 1995. He went way past his prime and his voice and style were lacking in the end. I throughly enjoy listening to his recordings up until about the late 70s but after that I'm not interested any more.
