I was looking at some good covers of the song by country artists, trying to decide which one to post, when I decided I really wanted to hear the Eagles' cover instead.

Steve Young wrote and recorded the song in 1969:

The Eagles' 1980 version of the song was obviously inspired by Iain Matthews' 1973 cover, which was produced by Mike Nesmith.

I like all three, as well as a number of other covers. It's a great song.
