Produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson, with Ken Scott as engineer (Scott's credits already included several Beatles albums as well as albums by Procol Harum, Bowie and Elton John). Bowie was a Velvet Underground fan and said later that he felt intimidated when someone at RCA, his and Reed's label, suggested he produce Reed's second solo album. It probably didn't help his confidence that Reed's first solo album had flopped. But the combination of talent on this second album worked perfectly.
