Moody Blues - Your Wildest Dreams
This isn't my favorite Moodies song, but it's a good song by Justin Hayward, and a very well-produced song. I've always been bemused by the Moodies fans I've encountered who dislike the song. It was the Moodies' first Top 10 hit in the US since "Nights In White Satin" was re-released in 1972, and it won Billboard's Video of the Year award for 1986.
The Moodies NEEDED this hit.
The fans who dislike it tend to harken back to the days of Mike Pinder on keyboards/Mellotron and Tony Clarke producing, and they criticize producer Tony Visconti, to whom the Moodies had turned. But the band's sound had already started to change with Patrick Moraz replacing Pinder, and for whatever reason Tony Clarke decided not to work with the Moodies again after producing Octave in the '70s.
This was a very '80s sound for the Moodies, but it was what they wanted. I noticed the Wikipedia article has a quote from Justin suggesting Tony Visconti was responsible for the emphasis on programming, but in Tony's autobiography, which goes into more detail, he explains that Patrick Moraz had wanted the programming and was trying to do it himself but having problems with software he wasn't used to, so Tony tried it to save time and the band liked what he did and asked him to do the programming.
Not classic first-seven-albums Moodies, but still a really good record that deserved the attention and sales it got.
