There's an early version of a violin, called a brujo, that was forbidden in church because it was considered satanic.

The violin is very important in my wife's religion. For centuries, musicians have climbed to the top of el cerro del Manzanillo during Holy Week, and made pacts with the devil, between the crucification and the resurection, exchanging their very souls to become more virtous on the violin.
