(65,057 posts)When I was at a conference on Montreux, I went to the Grand Hotel, even though it was closed for renovations (again) because of course, I had to!
A Deep Purple fan could never pass up that opportunity.
I wish it had been open!

(65,057 posts)It really goes places & becomes a song within a song!
It's the only song on that album where the studio version is better than the Made In Japan version.
It has great energy, especially given that during the recording, the guys were in different rooms & couldn't make eye contact. Paige & Glover were in one room, though Roger's amp was down the hall.
Lord had to be in his own room, because the electronics of the Hammond didn't allow long cable runs to the cabinets.
And, Richie always recorded in the iso booth with his amp.
And Gillan sang the scratch vocal in the truck.
Yet, the song has the charging energy it needs. They must have rehearsed it to the point they could do it in their sleep.
