Bob Dylan on Watchtower~Hendrix"In 1995, Dylan has described his reaction to hearing Hendrix's version: "It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using."
"Also, "All Along the Watchtower" was written during the height of the Vietnam War, and watchtowers are part of the iconic scenery of that war, so it's natural to connect one to the other. Overall, the mood is one of danger and suspense rather than outright violence."
Jimi Hendrix covers All Along the Watchtower from original Bob Dylans 'John Wesley Harding' album (1967)
In 2015, after receiving the MusiCares Person of the Year award, Bob Dylan thanked many of his collaborators and interpreters from over the years. After tipping his hat to Joan Baez, The Byrds, and Nina Simone, he turned his attention to Hendrix.
We cant forget Jimi Hendrix, he said. He took some small songs of mine that nobody paid any attention to and brought them up into the outer limits of the stratosphere, turned them all into classics I have to thank Jimi. I wish he was here.

Lyrics:
There must be some kind of way outta here
Said the joker to the thief
There's too much confusion
I can't get no relief
Business men, they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth
None will level on the line
Nobody offered his word
Hey, hey
No reason to get excited
The thief, he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But, uh, but you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us stop talkin' falsely now
The hour's getting late, hey
Hey
All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants, too
Well, uh, outside in the cold distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl, hey
All along the watchtower
All along the watchtower

(54,770 posts)1. Usually don't get excited about covers except in cases like this where Hendrix
took a great acoustic Dylan protest song and turned into an anthem.
JHendrix.
I don't think there's a word to do the man justice.
