The WHO returned to Cincinnati for its first concert since 1979

On May 15 the WHO finally came back to Cincinnati for their first concert performance since the tragedy in 1979. The WHO donated their share of the proceeds to a foundation in remembrance of the 11 people who died in 1979. The band played part of the show with the backing of orchestral members from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

They started the concert playing the Overture to Tommy, followed by several other Tommy pieces, including Pinball Wizard and See Me, Feel Me. The orchestral players added some weight to these orchestral-minded tunes and it was awesome! The orchestra members took a break and the band proceeded to play some classic WHO concert staples plus a few surprises such as Relay and the Seeker. The orchestra returned and then they played some tracks from Quadrophenia, another orchestral-minded album.

It was a fantastic concert and a nice tribute and remembrance to Cincinnati. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey are both in their late 70s and they still rock and kick ass. Of course Pete didn't do any of his famous leaps and Roger didn't twirl the microphone like in their prime. They have been my favorite band since the late 70s and their music will always be special to me. My 18 year old daughter and 16 year old son were lucky to get to see these legends for their very first rock concert.

Long live rock, I need it every night.

Thanks A Lot, Mr. Kibblewhite? It’s one of my favorite rock memoirs.

I still shudder to think that, had I not broken up with a guy, I would have been there in 1979. We had tickets and were excited to see The Who. Then I found out we was a racist pig and dumped him. Maybe saved both of our lives..or just mine. Don’t know if he went.

A friend bought it for me last year. It was a good read and I certainly appreciated his perspectives on the Who. He is a pretty good writer, too. Had a few laughs reading through it.

Do you still live in the Cincinnati area?

moved here in 2002 for work. I always thought living in the Cincinnati area would be cool. I was a Cincinnati Reds fan back in the Big Red Machine era (my baseball team was the Reds, so I naturally followed them. It didn't hurt that they won the Worlds Series twice in the 70s). When a work opportunity opened up nearby, I took it and have lived here since with my family.

I still like it here although I could do without the high humidity and pollen count.
