I saw Tommy at Winterland, just before he died. Amazing.
And I never saw
Mr Rhoads
But I sure wish now I had. Do yourself a favor and listen to as much from these two guys as you can.
And I sure wish I knew more about the plane crash that killed Randy. The bus driver was fucking around buzzing the bus? Dammit.

(31,112 posts)I saw David and gang "Animals" tour, and I have seen Jimmy Page, Brian May, Tommy Bolin, Carlos Santana, Jerry Garcia, Pete Townshend, Steve Miller, Keith Richards, Neal Schon, and so many more I cant remember.
And while David is by no means the best or even close, what he did was write a guitar solo here that is just magic...nothing quite like it.

(65,042 posts)There is a musicality to his playing that is typically superb.
Some people have a knack for playing singable solos. DG is one of those people.

(65,042 posts)In 1975, we saw Santana. He was opening for Clapton!
They played 50-55 minutes then Eric & his band played around 2 hours twenty. (BTW: they opened with Layla)
Then, both bands came out for the encode & they played an hour! Their first song together was a Latin rhythm Eyesight To The Blind.
They tore it up. A 4&1/2 hour show!

But we had a long way to drive that night.
Never saw "Slow Hand"...

(2,894 posts)suggested the (very inexperienced) pilot intended murder/suicide trying to kill his wife who was aboard the bus.
Ozzy was asleep when it happened, waking to tearing metal and daylight.
Sad too, that Rhoads was just trying to get his commitments to Ozzys band over with as he wanted to pursue classical guitar studies.

(31,112 posts)to get back at his ex wife who was on the bus, I guess.
The keyboard player was taking pics of them flying, he saw the pilot and Randy struggling, presumably Randy prevented him from hitting the bus full on which he wanted to do. He saved Ozzy's life, and Sharon.
That he wanted to leave the band I did not know.
