Ballad of Spider John

I’ve had this running as an ear worm since last nite when Judy Lynn posted about spiders and dreaming … looked on YouTube for it and found a new release, maybe 2 weeks old, where the artist and the song has aged finely …

The original from 1972

I was turned onto Willis Alan around 1975, by my Diamond Lil … and she has been long gone these many years … but I did look for you Appolonia… I did

until I went to the Willis Alan Ramsey wiki page. His songs have been covered by Jerry Jeff Walker, Shawn Colvin, Jimmy Buffet, Waylon Jennings and others. I most enjoyed the original recording. I'll be searching for more of his music. Thanks, Dweller!

Really surprised myself last nite, I sang through that whole song and didn’t miss a lyric … stuck back in the memory vaults that one is …

Like Northeast Texas Women and Boy from Oklahoma, which resonated because I was one. The only downer was the horrid Captain and Tenile version of "Muskrat" took a little from his beautiful version of the song.

Read up on him after your post and he has been an iconoclastic artist over the years, which isn't surprising. Thanks for the post and memories.
