Steve Marriott - Five Long Years (live, 1985) + 1952 original by Eddie Boyd

Steve didn't write that. The original was written and recorded in 1952 by Eddie Boyd, but it was much shorter and not as raw and powerful as Steve's cover. Good in its own way, though.

I saw Humble Pie perform in '73 and was amazed at Steve Marriott's guitar prowess. Long renowned as one of rock's most dynamic vocalists, his musicianship often gets overlooked. This performance alone would put him in the same league as many well-known British "guitar heroes". His pal Keith Richards figured that Marriott was good enough to replace Mick Taylor as lead guitarist after Taylor quit the Stones. Mick Jagger gave it a thumbs down after an audition, because Marriott was TOO good, and Jagger did not wish to be upstaged. So enter Ronnie Wood, who turned out to be a good match for Keith. Marriott's life was ended in a house fire about 30 years ago.
