According to the Billboard 100 for that year, the list of top sales is:

1. I Want to Hold Your Hand--the Beatles
2. She Loves You--the Beatles
3. Hello Dolly -- Louis Armstrong
4. Pretty Woman -- Roy Orbison
5. I Get Around -- the Beach Boys
6. Everybody Loves Somebody -- Dean Martin
7. My Guy -- Mary Wells
8. We'll Sing in the Sunshine -- Gelli Garrett
9. Last Kiss -- J. Frank Wilson
10. Where Did Our Love Go--the Supremes

Beatlemania was in full swing. In addition to the top 2 singles, they also came in at #13 -- A Hard Day's Night; #14 Love Me Do; #16 Please Please Me; #40 Twist and Shout; #52 Can't Buy Me Love; #55 Do You Want to Know a Secret; and number 95 "I Saw Her Standng There."

Nine songs in the top 100, six in the top 50. Maybe Elvis had a similar run, but otherwise that's pretty unprecedented and also pretty much unequaled in the decades since.
