10 Days -- 10 great live performances Grateful Dead

1975-1985

This is a clip from The Grateful Dead Movie released in 1978, although it was filmed over five nights in the Winterland (San Francisco) in 1974.

The band was trying to simulate on film the sublime experience of their concerts--Jerry Garcia once said that he was trying to create the effects of psychedelic drugs in his listeners through the music--and many fans believe The Dead succeeded with this production . . . the film focuses on the interaction of the mystical, even ecstatic, audience experience with the band.

(The clip starts out with trippy animation . . . to see and hear the actual concert footage, fast forward to the 7 min mark.)
