He was only 17 in late '65 when they had their first hit, "Keep on Runnin'":

That was for German TV's Beat-Club in 1966. The band's only German gigs were in early May in 1966, as far as I can tell from checking various websites, so Steve would have been just days away from his 18th birthday then.

EDTING to add that I found another website saying this episode was broadcast in March 1966, but that appearance was filmed earlier rather than live. So Steve was at least a few months from his 18th birthday then, if that was correct.

I'm not sure. I didn't see a date for the episode on Beat-Club's YouTube channel.
