(22,048 posts)Inspiration may be a form of super-consciousness, or
perhaps of subconsciousnessI wouldn't know. But I am
sure it is the antithesis of self-consciousness.
In the early 1980s, I met Maestro Copland three times, (he insisted I call him Aaron). He was friendly, generous of thought and interested in what a 22-year old composer had to say about contemporary music. I had just analyzed his Nonet for Strings and asked him all about it. He seemed pleased that I knew this somewhat obscure piece of his.
Coplands well-known works get plenty of attention and I happen to know that his estate has done very well securing performances and licenses for his music.
Happy birthday, sir. Thanks for your wonderful music!
