I don't feel this one did. Something about the blend of the guitar with the orchestra didn't work for me. Great music, great player....not a great result for me...

I need to be in a mood for this type of blended "Prog rock" or symphonic rock...

Beck has the chops to hang in with classically trained players, but the classical music constraints work against him IMHO.

Jeff had a hard time keeping within the boundaries of a blues rock jam band. Which is why his time with the Yardbirds was so short, so orchestral pieces have to be torture for him after a while

But this piece grabbed my ear tonight.

Musicianship - how well is it done..
Context - what was the 'purpose of it (the music)..
Does it 'move you'........
Does the 'genre' work......

The 'story' of the opera is that a guy has to solve 3 questions to win a prize (yeah, a woman!) and he has 1 last night to figure out the last of 3 questions to 'win.' So, while the 'village' rests, HE has to 'solve' riddle question #3 - hence the name 'Nessun Dorma' (while THEY all sleep, I have to figure this out!!!!).

It is a VERY popular and well-known operatic piece - one that is a 'benchmark' piece for tenors. Made this guy a SUPER STAR!

And, along with Jeff Beck, others have done the same piece:

Wonderful thing about music - it's all what it means to you.......
