The Mule-Ear Daisies have popped open. Posting for Memorial Day.

These are Wyethia Elata (Hall's) or Wyethia helianthoides.

I am waiting for a bunch that's in the shade to open.
They have curly petals, which would make them the Elata.

It's like a miniature world in there.
Pretty awesome for a wild flower.

This is about 1/10 the size of the original, so I cropped a bit of the original to show the fantastic detail inside. (below)

11. Yes, the light gets tricky when really low. And that's when I gear up for sunsets.

Exchange the macro lens for the zoom.

With very low sun, it's hard to get out of its way. I don't schedule my photo trips. Just "feels right" 8-)

Took some nice ones this morning (11:45) The flowers are at all angles, being on long and delicate stalks. A bunch just lie on the ground. So some lighting was flat and some was oblique. I just looked for the "fullest" ones.

Will post one this afternoon. Hard to choose!

My newest lens, a 17mm manual that can focus down to 5.9 inches, that’s good enough. It’s a 34mm in real life so it is pretty versatile.

I hope you get out and take photos soon. Perhaps you or someone else can pick some flowers to photograph indoors. I didn't do that with the Mariposa lilies, because they are hard to find, but not endangered. One broke, with its delicate stem, so I put it in a vase. These have bulbs and the daisies have a strong root system. Seeds don't seem as important to them. I haven't had any success with either one's seeds.

I don't know if you can use an auxiliary "plus" lens or extension tube to focus closer.

Take Care

A reverse ring.

My Sigma 30mm 2.8 works well with extension tubes.
