The Nikon Z 400mm f4.5 is announced.

It's officially released. Looks like a good deal! Just a smidge more than the m.43 300mm f4 in cost and a smidge bigger. At $3000 it's $10,000 less than the 400mm f2.8 which is not really available anyway.

My question is, and I haven't found the answer, can you use a z series lens on an existing DSLR. Mine is DX. There is an adapter going from F to Z. Adapter FTZ. But even searching for the other way I get pointed to needing a Z camera. I'm not ready to throw down for a new body and if I can get a Z lens to fit, with adapter, I can ease into the mirrorless world .
