Can anyone recommend a good head for my monopod?

My husband gave me a very nice Manfrotto monopod last year for Christmas, but I haven't used it much because I think it needs some kind of ball head or something to make it more adjustable. Any recommendations in the <$100 range?

You might need something heavier then. Speck Tater Dec 2012 #4
I think they may have a heavier duty one. Blue_In_AK Dec 2012 #7

They can be useful, but not as much as with a tripod Major Nikon Dec 2012 #5
Something like that would probably work for me, too. Blue_In_AK Dec 2012 #8

I use the same Joby Gorillapod ballhead on my regular tripod, my Gorillapod, and my monopod, so I can quickly switch the camera from one to the other with the quick-release clip that comes with the ballhead.

Google "gorillapod ballhead" to find it for around $30-$40.

On Edit: I use it with my Sony NEX 5N and with my longest (210mm) lens it is plenty steady. I don't know how firm it would be with a really heavy camera. Maybe try one out at your local camera store. Oh, and it has a built-in bubble level.

I was looking at that one at B&H's site and thought it might be appropriate. I'd most likely be using it with the 7D and keep on using my tripod for the bigger camera. That thing weighs a ton.

I have a simple tilt head on mine and haven't really wanted for anything else.

I'm just kind of used to ballheads. I have a pistol grip on my tripod.

I use the pan/tilt when I know I'm going to be doing video.

especially if you're doing live view, but I like to look through the viewfinder, so if I'm holding the monopod out away from my body a bit and then pull the camera to my eyes, it will tilt up. Also if I want to shoot down, I would be able to hold the monopod vertical and then point the camera down using the ball head. It just seems a little more flexible to me to have one. I'm sure it's a matter of personal preference.

...I'm using a Sony NEX so I never put it up to my eye. I shoot like I used to shoot with my twin lens reflex, or else I shoot like I would with an old-fashioned view camera. I dislike having to put the camera in my face to take a picture.
