(3,460 posts)I know where to look for collectible rocks, minerals and fossils in my area. The trouble is that the top layers of soil at these sites has usually been picked over by other rockhounds, leaving slim pickings until a heavy rain exposes more specimens.

(111,480 posts)I've always preferred the semiprecious stones to the sparkly stuff. I have a couple of azurite-malachite rings with a swirl pattern. It can also have a granular pattern with malachite and other minerals.
That is one gorgeous chunk of rock.
