Related: About this forumOkay, who's been to Turkey?
We're kind of thinking about getting out of Alaska for a couple of weeks next winter and Turkey looks groovy and not terribly expensive in the off season. I read that the daytime temps are around 45 in November, which sounds balmy. Has anyone been there?

(5,113 posts)in april. we went to ephesus and istanbul.
ephesus was wonderful but the merchants in the bazaar at the cruise ship dock in kusadasi were so obnoxious my wife headed back to the ship. the ruins were outstanding especially if you love ancient rome like I do. the istanbul was the highlight of our cruise. i only wish we had more time there. the spice market is amazing,i could spend days just wandering there. the blue mosque and hagia sofia are also very good. the grand bazaar is like a giant flea market. nice to see but not really worth a lot of time. the basilica cistern is a surprising sight there and worth seeing. the topkapi palace was in my mind the weakest of the major attractions. good buy not great.
we were a little apprehensive before we went but were pleasantly surprised and would love to go back.

(22,380 posts)who is Turkish, has lived here in my town, a retired professor of marketing at Wake Forest U, and when I was in Germany a few months ago she came from Turkey and we spent 2 weeks together.
She lives in Istanbul now, and has some kind of summer house at the Aegean sea. She is our age.
If you want her email, I'll put you two together to maybe plan the trip - or for her to answer questions.
