Who knows the answer to exactly when it should be run?
My guess is right about NOW, and it may not be too late.
If that is so, then we could try to recruit a volunteer host and go for it.
I don't like it if we ignore a bit of our heritage here just because we hit snags.
If we kept that up, then surely soon we may either not have winters, or photo contests.
Also, since I live in the South, it's a challenge

(18,635 posts)The time frame should end the February contest Sunday night.
Once the preliminaries are posted, I imagine everyone can focus on the Winter event.
Hopefully, we'll get one more entry so there will be nine in each poll. BTW... I've never posted a poll before, so wish me luck.

(22,380 posts)it's all good.
It's all so very good.
You are taking this seriously, and you will do so very well.
After you post the 3 threads, the rest is nothing but a walk in the park. Post them in off hours, that's what I do, so if something goes awry you have a bit of a leisure break to get it fixed without interference.
About the winter contest, I'll wait a day and see if the consensus is to go ahead.

(90,769 posts)Winter here is a few bare trees and maybe some frost on the grass. Maybe. Sometimes the cars had a thin layer of ice. No winter scenes for me.
But I bet other people were able to get some nice winter scenes for a winter contest. Probably shot some of them in anticipation of the contest.
If someone is willing to step in and run the Winter contest they could open submissions now (or tomorrow AM), with submissions running while the February prelims are up,then have both the Winter prelims and February final going at the same time. The winter contests could be over by the 27th/28th & the February contests over by the 24th/25th....and we'd be right on target without missing a contest.
But they'd have to start tonight or tomorrow morning.

(22,380 posts)and I'll think about that tomorrow.

(90,769 posts)I have nothing new that remotely resembles a winter scene.
When I was typing a message to JohnnyRingo I remembered CaliforniaPeggy mentioning that rDigital had been banned and that got me to thinking about the Autumn contest. So I searched the threads and saw that the winner had also been banned. Then I remembered that rDigital had mentioned something about his better half entering the Autumn contest. I should have made a separate post then but got busy with other things.
I feel bad about that now.

(14,910 posts)If it's a matter of expediency, I can have something drawn together by this afternoon..
Not sure how everyone feels about running a seasonal contest alongside the regular monthly contest....has this been done before? (pardon me, I don't recall)
At any rate... Let me know!

(8,039 posts)March first. I know we started moving them to the very end of the seasons to give everyone a chance to take new photos no matter what zone they live in. I need a better memory or learn to take notes.
I could probably run the contest if the last winner has been banned.

(22,380 posts)It's late
and I'm so tired for lots of reasons.
But tomorrow
it looks like we have the immediate beginnings of a winter contest looming.
To me it's ever so important. We have DU folks in the depths of wild winter happenings, and we have DU folks who can interpret the theme in ways that are innovativeand therefore help make it more interesting.

(90,769 posts)Maybe I'll rethink submitting something for a winter theme.
Thank you for all you do!!

(8,039 posts)I just don't want to interfere with the monthly contest. I'll post a reminder it start on the first.

(15,812 posts)So I am not overly motivated to submit anything. Glad we figured out what happened. I had no idea the winner had been banned! It's bad enough that the winning photo looked HDRish, but the photographer a stealth whatever?? I'm sorry the duo did so well in the contests.
