I saw a kingfisher like that perched on the windowsill just outside my bedroom window one morning years ago. Really startled me - I'd never seen one so close, maybe 10 feet away - but there are lots of minnows in the small creek half a block away, and that creek has attracted other birds you'll find around water, including ducks and even egrets once. Also a bald eagle that first showed up, perching in an old tree leaning out over the creek, when it was still young and its head hadn't turned white yet.

But actually, this was a very chill kingfisher. So chill that we called him "Buddy."

Beautifully-crafted photo, BTW. Exposure, light, focus, and (I guess), patience!
