2. Serif.com PhotoPlus is cheap and pretty easy to use

after you get the hang of it. Quite a powerful program for the money. Essentially a Photoshop knockoff for $90.

They have a stripped down "starter edition" that is free. That probably does text.

4. I had the PhotoPlus 6.0 which did a dandy job, but my hard drive was dying and I had to put in a new

one and found out I couldn't transfer any program files..there went PhotoPlus 6.0 which was free, and when I went to download another copy, all they have is PhotoPlus Starter that's free...and I can't get it to work right. When I export to the program I use to manage my photos, it may or may not save the words on the photo.
The rule on the program files is only about a month or so old so if anyone has photos in folders in the program files section, better move them to the My Documents folder or they will be gone when you buy a new computer and expect the hard drive to be ghosted to the new computer..they won't do it under hefty penalties.

If you are doing copy and past into other programs, you have to make sure you select all layers before you copy out.

When doing a File-Export command, it should get all of the layers automatically.

3. Another option is to use Libre Office Draw

That's free. You can't edit the photography, but you can certainly bring in a picture and lay text on top of it.

You would need to install the entire LibreOffice suite, but that's easy and free. The writer, spreadsheet, and presentation programs are very compatible with Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well.

Free, powerful and easy to use.

It sounds like you are putting the same label on multiple photos. This would work great.

7. Just out of curiosity, why so many?...

Tombstones make wonderful photos so I understand taking shots of them, just curious why such a large collection. Is it a hobby of yours to photograph them on trips, or is this for documentation reasons? If it's a hobby, have you ever had problems with people? I've wanted to take a few shots of tombstones at times but was worried someone would give me a funny look or ask what I was doing.

8. I have a genealogy website for my county, and have all the tombstone transcriptiions plus thousands

of obituaries. I'm trying to document all the tombstones in the county and link them to the person in the transcriptions. The obits are linked to them too. This way researchers from all over the world can get information about their ancestors without leaving home.
Information they wouldn't be able to get without coming here.
I've had the site since 1996 and have been adding to it ever since.

Oh, I've photo'd probably 20 of the cems myself, I have a helper who is doing the super big one section by section, and others have photographed some also. I put the name of the cem on the photo so they will always have that info.

9. If you knew how quickly they can simply disappear, you'd take those photos. I have transcriptions

of the stones from the late 1970s, and some of those are nothing but a pile of rubble..I could match the pile with the transcription because of the dates left on the pieces of the stone. The stones go back into the late 1800s and early 1900s that are rubble or totally gone.
Our goal is to make the cemeteries blue with links...links to obits and photos.
