What a cool festival! It's refreshing to see something so hip like this that hasn't been co-opted by f*cking Red Bull.....or some other corporate sponsor.

(60,065 posts)I think his portraits are very good and I'd like to see more. I guess he got bored with level horizons.
The peyote kicked in.
alfredo
(60,065 posts)We used to grind it up and smoke it. It was an immediate, but short lived high. The Peyote would swell as it heats up so care had to be taken not to clog your pipe.
Every years a guy would walk down the alley between Forest and Prentis ave. In his arms was a paper bag full of peyote. He would call out to us and give a few buttons to everyone that wanted some. He said it was wrong to sell it.

(46,436 posts)I had friends who would bring back big burlap bags of the buttons from some secret place they knew of in South Texas. We used to just grind them up in some orange juice, hold our noses and drink it down. Vile-tasting stuff, but the high was great. Psychedelics always were my drug of choice.

(60,065 posts)A cycle camping in the mountains, so my bike was loaded.
At that time there was an Olympic prep cycle race, so there were teams from several countries there. While cycling up the hill to my house, I noticed my bike had turned to rubber, rigid crank arms we all stretchy. While totally engrossed in the flexing of my bike, I was overtaken by the Mexican national cycling team. They were riding rubber bikes too.
I spent the rest of the day watching the Flatirons breathe. Every now and then they'd spit out a hang glider.

(11,488 posts)My employer's IT department blocks all photo sharing sites (I guess photobucket is too controversial to access on my lunch break ), so I just now was able to sit down and scroll through them. I'm really liking them. Many are heavily processed, which I usually don't care for, but these are all done in such a way that they really fit the subject.
And I wish I'd have known about Burning Man 25 or so years ago. Anymore I couldn't last that long without my Geritol and lots of sleep.

(60,065 posts)part in isolated parts of the Daniel Boone National Forest. You get drunk, get stoned, get naked, and get fed hog fresh out of the fire pit.
One memory was of a barefoot gal riding a Blue Roan. One hand was holding the mane, the other, a fiddle.
One morning we were roused from our inebriate dreams by the son of Satan playing the bagpipes.
Sure it wasn't Burning Man, but it was fun.

(60,065 posts)photo ops are a real draw. The portrait I posted is what I'd want to bring away from the event. The faces in low desert light is worth the trip.
I'd love to photograph the event, but the dust is a real issue. Baggies for equipment is essential, and so is the expense of weather proofed equipment.
Alameda
(1,895 posts)I would like to see it go to it, but I can not take the dust. My lungs could not take it. The sets and lighting is absolutely spectacular.
There is a post apocalyptic ethereal feeling about it. The whole thing has a Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome feel about it. I almost expect to see Auntie Entity. I looked it up to see what was first, and it was Mad Max Beyond thunderdome in 1985. Burning Man started in 1986.
The beautiful young bodies are no problem. However it does have the feel of a Bacchanal, or some pagan orgy.

(22,755 posts)up so I was reminded to go through the photos again... also did a further look at his other stuff and discussion about cameras... I say; he has the same tripod I use... why don't my photos look like that???
edit to add and and, yes I know... my son and partner keep reminding me... I have to keep working and playing and practicing and maybe actually read the manuals... then I doubt I could ever produce something so awesome
