August Photo Contest - Prelimaries are up in General Discussion

It's time to vote in the August photo contest. The theme this month is Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (and Bikes and Boats).
Preliminary voting will end at 10 PM EDT Wednesday August 21st. The top 2 photos from each group edit - plus the next four highest overall vote-getters will advance to the final round, which will begin on Thursday August 22nd.

I really don't have a clue as to which photos will do well, there are so many excellent ones.

I tell you what, holding onto that pile of superb photography was such a feeling of power. Kinda' like a kid with a bag of candy deciding when to share with everyone else.

3. With regard to finals

are you going to just use the top 2 from each poll (6 total) or add the next four highest overall vote-getters, which is what we usually do to round out a poll of 10? Just curious.

OK, I actually hadn't even thought about that. I guess I didn't realize that was the tradition since I haven't been hangin' out in the photography group very long. Sure, lets do that.

You're the boss. I think we've done it with 10 for a couple of reasons ... one, it fills up the poll, and, two, sometimes the third or fourth entry in a particular preliminary poll gets more votes than the second one in one of the other preliminary polls. Occasionally we have some real runaways where the top vote-getter in a preliminary poll gets 50 votes or something and the next highest only has 12.

Top two from each group with the next 4 seems to work pretty well.
