We have a mixture of sorta tall and mostly stunted trees here. The stunted magnolias are strange to behold. The trees are no more than 5, maybe 6 feet tall - and they're not young trees either. Just stunted. Maybe there's a type that doesn't grow tall? I dunno. They bloom and all - just look like miniature magnolias.
I grew up around really tall magnolias.
