(31,408 posts)He's going to lose his easy meal this weekend. Think I'm tossing it over the deck and down
the hill so he can share with the deer. So much pulp is exposed it's starting to attract bugs!

(14,910 posts)I wasn't sure if I was going to use it after posting it as part of my preview...however I walked by the woodpile again this afternoon and it spoke to me to use this one...
...so there it is!
Thanks for the kind words...
Solly Mack
(90,792 posts)I can't explain it properly but I am drawn to your photo.
Love the textures. Adore the colors....they just scream Autumn.
I want to touch your photo to feel the various ridges and lines. To feel the fabrics.

(22,380 posts)It's the only thing I photographed for the contest. I stalked it at a couple of occasions in a large bush in my front yard. Am thinking of destroying this large thing, so that many millions of new spiders will not hatch around my house.
Solly Mack
(90,792 posts)Most leave the place of their birth though a few will stay around.
I enjoy watching the babies shoot out a line and the wind picks it up and off the babies sail to new places.
Course, I'm kinda weird about bugs and assorted other creepy crawlies.
CC
(8,039 posts)as in you have seen the spider or is it tent worms? We get webs like that here but they are tent worms and you want to kill them before they spread. Terry tend to cut those branches off it possible and burn them though I have watched him take a blow torch to them while in the tree.
Beyond that you captured some wonderful photos.
Mira
(22,380 posts)to caution me, I will tend to this tomorrow - and thanks for the compliment -yours and mine fluctuate by a vote the entire preliminary so far. I think it is beautiful.

I was going back and forth on whether to focus on the squirrel--or show more texture--and
have decided to submit the tighter crop.

(7,350 posts)I'm not really satisfied with the one I entered
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,737 posts)I'd like to keep the count accurate, so if you would, delete the current picture and put the new one in the same place. I think you can do that. Maybe put the new one in the same place and then delete the old one? Dunno!
Anyway, change it all you want!

(31,408 posts)put up threads in GD and The Lounge to let people know submissions
are being accepted for the Oct contest?
I think in the last couple of months we've snagged a couple of newcomers--
possibly through those announcements.

(131,197 posts)your outstanding yellowjacket encourages me to think more seriously of getting another camera! What's yours???

(28,506 posts)One of the first digital Rebels. It's taken a lickin' and kept on tickin'. Seriously, I've abused it pretty badly over the years and it still takes gorgeous photos. I get frustrated in some low-light situations that it doesn't go over 1600 ISO, but I'm neither rich enough nor dedicated enough to upgrade to something nicer. My photos got a lot better when I really started fiddling around with apertures and depth of field. After I figured that combo out, the Rebel has served me well. So well, I can't use a point-and-shoot, though I have a pretty good one. The quality isn't bad but the versatility sucks. What are you shooting with, elleng?
elleng
(131,197 posts)had a Nikon 30+ years ago, and had several lenses. 'Lost' it when separated and sold the house.
A friend has a Rebel she's thinking of turning in/over, as she has another very advanced something and wants to 'graduate.' So I'm thinking of relieving her of the Rebel, and getting back into SLR's, this one a 'D.' Not sure how old it is, but may discuss with you if I go further with this idea, maybe after I've had cataract surgery. Like, what might a used Rebel be worth, so I can make a decent offer to a friend.
intheflow
(28,506 posts)it looks to me like $125-185 are the going rates for a used one with the lens. Check out your local craigslist searching under Canon Rebel and see what pops up. The price could fluctuate regionally.
elleng
(131,197 posts)That sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

(17,005 posts)for posting my October photo and joining in the fun. When I took that photo last October I was not really able to see well due to cataracts and when I came across it just recently, it made me smile and say why not.
Thanks from my oldest cat Rev and his little sweetheart Foxy, our Miss October is the baby in the family.
With your help, it's in this October contest with so many of you pros...
and I am truly amazed and thankful.
