*** Theme ideas for November contest ***

Last edited Wed Nov 12, 2014, 02:45 PM - Edit history (1)

Hello everybody!

As winner of the October photo contest I have been awarded the honor of hosting the November photo contest.

I have checked the themes from prior contests:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10364949

And did a Yahoo search for theme ideas and came up with about 200, which I have whittled down and posted here for your perusal. If you see a favorite or have another idea, just post it and I will consider it.

I will pick a theme and start accepting pics sometime next mid-week.

Themes:

abstracts
books
bottles
curves
distortion
eyes
fire
hair
glass
mirror
movement
neon
paint
windows

What a list! What do you like? You are the absolute ruler here!

I like curves and movement...but abstract is my strength so I'm biased...go for that!

I think you should decide what you'd like to host and among the list, I only see one topic
that I would just not be able to bring myself to offer a photo or vote--and that is fire.
Having watched our home burn down 7 years ago, I no longer see the beauty--just the destructive
capacity--of fire. And after those midterms, boy, I sure do need to see some beauty.

I'm positive that our talented group of photogs can come up with a lovely crop of photographs for whichever theme you provide us with!

Look forward to to the November theme announcement!

wants YOU to pick it and surprise us?
I think so - and I join them.
(except for the "no fire" thing... I go along with that as well)

There are two themes in that list that I like but it's probably more an attempt to weed out the unpopular ones. For example I like to take pictures of lighthouses and seascapes but some people here might be landlocked and aren't within 500 miles of an ocean.

but are nice enough to realize that all of us are not close to the sea, you could go with "waterscapes" instead and that would give a category open to a lot of interpretation without excluding anyone.

But any category that you like will be welcome. You're the boss.

when I say I'd rather have a longer time to shoot and ponder the photos than to decide the theme.

My personal favorite time in a contest is the period after i know the theme and now i must think and create.
It's also the time I learn the most.
