Related: About this forumAnother weekend, another adventure.
This past weekend was chock-full of exploration for me. I was in two states (not counting my home state from which I left) and the District of Columbia.
Saturday morning saw me at the Franklin School in DC. The building was designed by Adolf Cluss and was built in 1869. Besides being a school it was also a homeless shelter and was briefly used by the Occupy movement in 2011. It is now slated to become a contemporary art museum. Glad it is being repurposed instead of torn down like so many historical buildings these days. We were only there an hour and were rushed through, so I didn't get too many shots.
Saturday afternoon saw me heading to a place I'd been twice before...the truck farm, as we like to call it, in Virginia. This older gentleman buys old semi's and then just parks them on his farmland... we don't know why but it lends itself to great photographic opportunities. For me it gave me a chance to play with a couple of new lenses.
I got home around 12:30 am and had to be up at 4:30 am to head off to my next adventure in Pennsylvania. There was lots of silliness on this 4 hour trip because we were all punch drunk--yes, a roving pack of punch drunk photographers couldn't be more dangerous and hilarious (especially the bunch I hang out with). We'd heard about an abandoned whiskey distillery and wanted to see if the rumors were true. They were, it was abandoned.
The complex was quite large and though all the vats had been removed, it still had photographic potential.
And this is where we finished off the day before heading home.
I'm still exhausted but had a great time. I hope you enjoy my adventure too.

(18,219 posts)I thought that my favorite here would be the keys in the ignition, and then I saw the sunset over the farm. That was a lovely mix of color and clouds.
