(15,939 posts)I did a cut and paste of prior contest postings for the submission thread rules. If anything needs clarifying just drop me a line and I will fix it.

(18,219 posts)Well, that is something that I doubt I have in my files. Interesting choice. I'll see if I can get anything worth entering.
And away we go.

(15,939 posts)Wanted to use that, but some landlocked DU'ers probably aren't within a thousand miles of a lighthouse.
Tried to use something fairly generic that everyone had access to.

(14,910 posts)Had to utilize an archive photograph as I won't have time to shoot for this month's theme.
Look forward to the submissions!
For how long? Nevermind, got my answer, and as I'll be away from the cottage for a week or so, may have to submit 'old' pics.

(31,388 posts)My shot was taken of a Chanel window display in Paris last May.

(149,620 posts)This was a cathedral window in Rome, not far from our hotel. I was really surprised at how beautiful the inside of the cathedral was, since the outside was very plain and undistinguished.

(31,388 posts)I have one like that I took at the beach and considered for the contest! I've never
tried a shot like that before. I really like yours because it also shows the window frame.
Adsos Letter
(19,459 posts)That was taken down at the Embarcadero in San Francisco in July of last year. My wife and I were down there for the Louis Vuitton Cup.
My youngest daughter and new son-in-law are going to Paris for a couple of weeks in December for their honeymoon (they were married last month).
Chanel and Christian Dior have been mentioned several times in our recent conversations regarding the trip...

(31,388 posts)My husband and I spent a month traveling around France on our honeymoon in 1985.
It was marvelous. That was the old days of film, and alas, all my photos from that trip
were lost in our fire. But we have wonderful memories...
And the closest I've ever come to Chanel, Dior, etc. has been to look in the windows!

(46,436 posts)I downloaded it from my SmugMug site and could see it on my iPod, but maybe it was just out in a cloud somewhere. Who knows? Anyway, I went back and dug out the original photo and posted it to PhotoBucket and then here. I think the problem is solved now.

(149,620 posts)I feel sorry for the dawg!
Blue_In_AK
(46,436 posts)That's what made this shot so funny to me.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,620 posts)The other one is a little subtle at first.
But once you see it.........well, yes, it's funny!
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,620 posts)I suspect she'll post it later after she's worked on it...

(15,939 posts)Is the current contest host allowed to enter a picture? I'm not sure of the official rules if there are any.

(15,939 posts)I assume that the reason is that the host could pick a theme on which they have great expertise; therefore they would be rigging the odds of winning in their favor.
Blue_In_AK
(46,436 posts)that I've forgotten the reason, but your guess is probably close.

and this faux window at the local theater ( http://www.newdawntheatercompany.com/ )

(2,825 posts)I want to submit a photo but don't use any of the photo "cloud" services. All I have on my computer is Picasso and Windows Live Photo Gallery. Is there a way to submit with either of the these?
Lilyhoney
(1,985 posts)Post your photos to picasa web album and go from there. In picasa click on help tab upper left and look for directions. Hope this helps. Would be more helpful if I were at my desktop and had my glasses.
Mira
(22,380 posts)Picasa allows you to export a photo you have taken and maybe tweaked a bit to the desktop where it can lie in abeyance until you have created a photo bucket account.
The photo bucket account, just like Picasa, is free.
After you have created that upload the photo by clicking in the upload window, setting the size (800 x 600 pixels) by clicking on the little star in the right hand top corner of that window, and then drop the saved photo from the desk top into the open upload window.
It will take a bit, like a half a minute to upload.
Then you double click on the photo which has appeared under the upload window and on the top right of your screen 4 links appear.
Click on the second link from the top and see that it says "copied"
Then title the photo in your head.
Go to DU - photo forum - submission thread for "windows" /November and insert the link that was on hold since you copied it into a new window. Type your title into the title bar, and click on preview to be sure it's how you want it.
Presto!
You have an entry.
I hope I explained it well enough - you still have over 3 hours to get this done, and next time will be a breeze.
I also hope I did not over explain it.
Good luck and have fun.

(2,825 posts)already Tuesday. We will see. Stupid of me to wait until the last minute to learn. If I can't do it now, I will simply post it here separately at another time.:
Mira
(22,380 posts)putting together the preliminary threads. He said the submissions were closed at midnight yesterday.
But you will be way ahead next time if you practice a bit beforehand, and ask questions if you need to.
I look forward to seeing your first photo post.
I surely remember mine!
Mira
(22,380 posts)Not only is it in my opinion a photo that touches on all the aspects of being popular - it's a great shot and a fun first post - but you got it in in time after all because the host extended the deadline.

(2,825 posts)Dot has quite a back-story and too bad she couldn't write a book.
Photo was taken a few years back. What struck me about the photo after looking at it again, was the way the color of the windowsill matched the color of Dot's feathers. Lucky coincidence in the way it tied all the imagery together.
THANK YOU to EVERYBODY here who encouraged me and gave me input in how to post a photo.
